Joe Biden’s popularity continues to drop, as evidenced by a new poll from the state of Iowa, which shows 62% of the state disapproves of Biden’s job performance. In 2012 Barack Obama won the state by 6 points, before it swung for Trump in both 2016 and 2020.
The poll, conducted by the Des Moines Register, found that just 31% of Iowans approve of Biden’s job performance, while 62% disapprove, and 7% are unsure. The poll makes for a 12-point drop in Biden’s approval rating compared to the last time the question was asked back in June.
“Biden’s job approval rating is lower than former President Donald Trump’s worst showing in the Iowa Poll. The former Republican president’s worst job approval was 35% in December 2017.” the Register found. “The former Republican president’s worst job approval was 35% in December 2017. Other recent presidents’ worst Iowa Poll results: Barack Obama, 36%, in February 2014, and George W. Bush, 25%, in September 2008.
Broken down by political party, the president has virtually no support from Iowa Republicans, with 4% supporting him, while 95% disapprove. Unsurprisingly, Biden has strong support among Democrats, where 86% approve and 7% disapprove. Iowa independents disapprove of Biden two to one, with 62% disapproving of his performance while only 29% approve.
On the national level Biden doesn’t fare much better. Earlier in September an Economist/YouGov poll revealed only 39% of Americans approve of his job performance. Meanwhile, the same poll found only 26% of Americans say the country is heading in the right direction.
