China hacks emails of top state dept. officials

by Renata

Hackers linked to the Chinese Communist Party have breached the emails of top state department officials.

The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that the email accounts of Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns and Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia Daniel Kritenbrink were compromised. The extent of the hacks are currently unknown. It is believed the hackers may have gained access to hundreds of thousands of U.S. government emails, albeit most likely not highly classified information.

This comes a few months after the notorious Chinese spy balloon incident in February and the arrest of Chinese nationals in April on charges of operating an illegal CCP police station in New York City. Florida Republican Rep. Mike Waltz is wondering when there will be consequences for China’s infiltration.
