In a disturbing report of Christian persecution, a Ugandan Christian evangelist was assaulted and beaten by Islamist radicals last weekend in an unprovoked attack.

According to a report from Christian Headlines, 43-year-old Charles Kemya was on his way to a participate in an apologetic discussion about Christianity and Islam when eight Islamic radicals ganged up on him and beat him to a point where he lost consciousness.

By God’s grace, Kemya was not killed and has regained consciousness as he recovers in a local hospital.

According to Kemya, these radicals attacked him because of a previous debate in which he used the Koran to argue for the truth claims of the Bible:

I used the Koran to show Muslims that from the beginning of the Earth to date, God wants all people to be saved including Muslims. I also discussed Sura 72 about the powers of evil jinn, and that they can be defeated by Issa [Jesus], and many Muslims converted to Christ. One sheikh wanted to grab the Koran from me, but I refused and left immediately.

He went on to discuss the attack, describing it as a midday ambush:

I stopped my car only to be ambushed by six other Muslims in Islamic attire who resurfaced from the bush at around midday. Some beat me badly while others cut me with some objects, and I lost a lot of blood as they pulled me out of my car and threw me out.

The report states he was hit in the head with a bar, which caused him to lose consciousness. He was found several hours later and brought to a hospital.

He also remembers one of the men threatening to kill him, saying,

You have been terrorizing our religion. Today Allah has called you, and you are going to meet him.

This development, like so many others that we have explored at FISM News, highlights the desperate need for prayer on behalf of believers across the world. It is also an encouragement for believers to show the same steadfastness and submission to the Word of God that Charles Kemya has shown in continuing to argue for the truth of the gospel while under heavy fire.
