Christian persecution: North Korea imprisoned 2-year-old child for family’s faith

by ian

A shocking report coming out of North Korea. An entire family – including a two year child – was sentenced to life in prison all because one family member had a Bible.

North Korean labor camps are known for their inhumane conditions. Some say the life expectancy in a North Korean prison is only three years.

The family was sentenced in 2009. But the story remained unknown until the U.S. State Department included it in its recent religious freedom report.

Open Doors ministry believes up to 70,000 Christians are currently in jail for their faith. In its 2021 report the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom said North Korea is trying to “remove all traces of Christianity.”

North Korea is currently ranked by Open Doors as the second worst country when it comes to Christian persecution, with Afghanistan coming in at number one.
