Correspondents’ dinner: President Joe Biden pokes fun at Republicans and himself

by ian

President Joe Biden took swipes at leading Republicans, news outlets, and even himself at last night’s Correspondents’ dinner. At one point, he called out House Speaker Kevin McCarthy for a low approval rating.

Biden also said he had jokes prepared against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, but that Mickey Mouse beat him to it.
The president even zinged himself a couple of times on his age and press availability.

According to the American Presidency Project, Biden is on-pace to hold the third-fewest press conferences of all presidents for the past century.

But Biden also put humor aside in a vow to set free Americans wrongfully detained overseas. This includes Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who is still in custody in Moscow. The president said, “Journalism is not a crime.”
