DeSantis Issues Fiery Response to Biden’s Critique of Florida Pandemic Policy

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis responded to President Joe Biden’s critique of his job as governor by suggesting that the President has been allowing the virus to spread with his policies.

During a recent press conference, President Biden lauded his administration’s effort in getting at least one dose of vaccine to 70% of U.S. adults. He had previously made this a goal to reach by July 4th, but the milestone was only reached yesterday.

Biden continually pushed for Americans to get the vaccine, especially those who haven’t been vaccinated at all. He also took time to highlight a few states that are pushing back against the mandates that the federal government is quick to reimplement, such as mask requirements.

But others have declined to step up.  I find it disappointing.  And worst of all, some state officials are passing laws or signing orders that forbid people from doing the right thing. As of now, seven states not only ban mask mandates, but also ban them in their school districts, even for young children who cannot get vaccinated.

Eventually, Biden named both Florida and Texas as the two states from which over one-third of all new COVID-19 cases are emerging. Currently, the states account for almost a third of all new cases within the last seven days according to CDC case-tracking data. Of the over 2,000 reported deaths in the last seven days, the two states combined make up just over 28%.

Biden spoke directly to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Texas Governor Greg Abbott, and asked them to use their “power to save lives.”

Look, we need leadership from everyone.  And if some governors aren’t willing to do the right thing to beat this pandemic, then they should allow businesses and universities who want to do the right thing to be able to do it. I say to these governors, ‘Please, help.’  But if you aren’t going to help, at least get out of the way of the people who are trying to do the right thing.  Use your power to save lives.

Governor DeSantis didn’t take too kindly to Biden’s comments and returned the insults with some of his own.

During his own press conference yesterday, DeSantis said that Biden’s lackadaisical policing of the U.S.-Mexico Southern Border is “facilitating” the spread of COVID-19 around the country. Touching on masking mandates, DeSantis said that he would rather have parents decide if their child should wear a mask in school rather than have the government require it.

His solution, is he wants to have the government force kindergarteners to wear masks in school. He doesn’t believe the parents should have a say in that, he thinks that should be a decision for the government. Well I can tell you in Florida, the parents are going to be the ones in charge of that decision.

DeSantis continues attacking Biden and his administration, pointing out some of the “insane” things that Biden is trying to push such as wearing masks at home and requiring vaccine mandates. DeSantis further states that Biden “rejects science” by not believing that those who had recovered from a COVID-19 infection are protected.

He also points out hypocrisy from Biden for wanting proof of vaccination “to participate in everyday society” but not supporting voter identification.

We can either have a free society, or we can have a biomedical security state. And I can tell you Florida, we’re a free state. People are going to be free to choose to make their own decisions about themselves, about their families, about their kids’ education, and about putting food on the table. And Joe Biden suggests that if you don’t do lockdown policies then you should “get out of the way,” but let me tell you this: if you’re coming after the rights of parents in Florida, I’m standing in your way. I’m not going to let you get away with it.
