Former NHL player backs Aaron Rodgers: “I believe in freedom of conscience.”

Many sports personalities and athletes have harshly criticized Aaron Rodgers’ recently publicized decision to reject the COVID-19 shot after the Green Bay Packers’ MVP quarterback tested positive for the virus last week. But some are speaking out in Rodgers’ defense, arguing that he, and all Americans like him, should have the freedom to make an informed health decision without punishment.

One of these is Mike Fisher, former NHL player and husband of country music star Carrie Underwood. Earlier this week, Fisher delivered a lengthy post on his Instagram page titled “I stand with Aaron Rodgers.” In it, Fisher declared,

I stand with @aaronrodgers12 I believe in the freedom to choose what we put in our bodies and the freedom of conscience. I agree with him in that the science clearly shows the vaccinated spread Covid at basically the same rate as the unvaccinated. The @nhl @nfl and other leagues are ignoring the science and choosing to coerce and punish unvaccinated players with these restrictions…It’s time to fight for our medical freedom and I feel for those that have been fired for choosing medical freedom. People losing their jobs over a medical choice is un-American and unacceptable. We need to stand up now before it’s too late!!

Fisher is also a professing Christian, and he echoed the concerns of many Christians and Americans who want to protect personal freedoms. He spent a long career in the NHL with the Ottowa Senators and Nashville Predators before retiring in 2018.

Underwood, who married Fisher in 2010, has not publicly commented on her husband’s stance but was among 60,000 of her husband’s Instagram followers to “like” the post.
