Guardsmen arrested over document leaks appears before court

A 21-year-old Massachusetts airman was arrested in connection to a trove of leaked U.S. intelligence documents. AG Merrick Garland made the announcement.

He was arrested without incident after posting classified materials to an online gaming platform. Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder said that the act was criminal and “deliberate.” He made an appearance before a federal judge in Boston this morning.

Aside from a breach in trust, the leak has also had some negative geopolitical side effects.

Notably, it showed that the U.S. was much more involved in the Ukraine War than originally thought, prompting fears of drawing itself into direct conflict with Russia.
