‘Harassed’ U.S. drones take out Islamic State leader in Syria

The U.S. military scored a major victory in the ongoing battle against terrorism Friday when three U.S. reaper drones took out a top ISIS group leader.

Pentagon officials confirmed that Usamah al-Muhajir was killed in eastern Syria. He was killed by the same drones harassed by Russian fighter jets earlier on Friday for almost two hours. Russia says the American drones entered airspace used by Russian aircraft and blamed the U.S. for the incident.

Al-Muhajir’s death comes as the U.S. has stepped up attacks on ISIS within the last year. CENTCOM warns ISIS remains a major threat in the region, even though its network is far weaker than its peak in 2014.

No civilians died in the strike.
