Late last week, the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees released a letter in which Republican chairs accused Secretary of State Antony Blinken of organizing the creation of the 2020 letter in which dozens of former intelligence officials stated the Hunter Biden laptop story bore the markings of Russian disinformation.
The committees’ letter – authored by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner, both of Ohio – asserts that Blinken, in his capacity as a Biden campaign advisor, contacted ex-CIA official Mike Morell on Oct. 17, 2020.
Morrell, who provided testimony to the Judiciary and Intelligence committees, indicated he did not choose to endorse the Biden laptop letter, one that carried 51 signatures, until after that phone call.
Now, House Republicans are demanding that Blinken give an accounting of himself.
“We are examining that public statement signed by 51 former intelligence officials that falsely discredited a New York Post story regarding Hunter Biden’s laptop as supposed Russian disinformation.” The letter reads, “As part of our oversight, we have learned that you played a role in the inception of this statement while serving as a Biden campaign advisor, and we therefore request your assistance with our oversight.”

Unsurprisingly, conservative members of both the House and Senate have begun to call for Blinken’s job.
The Washington Examiner reports that both Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.) have said Blinken should resign from his position.
In a tweet in which he shared the Examiner’s article, Biggs wrote simply, “He should.”

This marks a new chapter in Republicans’ efforts to retroactively discredit a great deal of journalistic reporting on the Biden laptop story, which was removed from numerous social media platforms and generally decried as false by legacy media outlets in the runup to the 2020 election.
The intelligence community’s letter was the key element to which media and social media companies pointed to justify downplaying or wholly ignoring the Biden laptop story.
Now, conservatives want to drive home the argument that the stifling was done in aid of President Joe Biden’s election effort and prevented “American citizens from making a fully informed decision during the 2020 presidential election.”
“Although the statement’s signatories have an unquestioned right to free speech and free association—which we do not dispute—their reference to their national security credentials lent weight to the story and suggested access to specialized information unavailable to other Americans,” the letter reads.
The congressmen added, “This concerted effort to minimize and suppress public dissemination of the serious allegations about the Biden family was a grave disservice to all American citizens’ informed participation in our democracy.”
