House passes Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act

by Faith Duncan

Congress is taking action to make sure female athletes have fair competition.

Today House Republicans passed a bill barring biological males from playing in women’s sports. The bill passed 219-203, with no support from Democrats, who say it bullies transgender athletes. This comes as the Biden administration is moving to add transgender protections to title IX.

Florida Republican Greg Stuebe says his bill is meant to protect female sports as Title IX intended.

While it’s a political win for house Republicans, the bill is likely dead on arrival in the Democrat controlled Senate. And President Biden has promised to veto the measure if it should ever reach his desk.
