Iowa is tightening the reins on abortion in the state, as lawmakers just lowered their 20-week abortion ban to six weeks.
The state legislature’s week-long special session came to a close Tuesday night with the passing of the bill. Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds immediately stated she would sign the bill on Friday.
Protestors flooded the state capitol building during the session. Some shouted “bans off our bodies,” while others yelled, “abortion is murder.” At one point state troopers had to step in and separate the protestors.
Democrats called the bill “disrespectful” and “obscene.” But Republican Rep. Brad Sherman took a practical stance, saying, “if they are not ready to have a baby, they shouldn’t have sex. A lot of people need to review their birds and bees.”
