Iranian leaders release two Christian prisoners

by ian

A judge in Iran ruled in favor of two Christian leaders last week. They were previously convicted for practicing their faith in a home church.

Iranian authorities released the couple after the judge broke with common judicial practice in the Islamic country. He did this by ruling that home church participation wasn’t a threat to Iran’s national security.

The judge struck down the couple’s 2020 prison sentence for lack of evidence that the couple violated Iran’s law of the land. The judge reasoned that being a part of a “home group” with people of the same faith was only “natural” and not illegal.

Open Doors’ 2023 World Watch List ranked Iran as the 8th most difficult country for Christians to live in.
