Earlier this week, Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene made waves when she announced her plan to file articles of impeachment against numerous ranking members of the federal government. Thursday, she became the talk of Capitol Hill when she began the process to impeach President Joe Biden.

Greene, who has deemed this “impeachment week”, filed three articles of impeachment against Biden.

“Joe Biden has blatantly violated his constitutional duty and his border policies are a direct threat to our national security,” Greene tweeted. “It’s time to #ImpeachBiden.”

The congresswoman expanded on her argument in a statement that read,

Joe Biden has deliberately compromised our national security by refusing to enforce immigration laws and secure our border, allowed approximately 6 million illegals from over 160 countries to invade our country, deprived border patrol of the necessary resources and policies sufficient to protect our country, and his administration has willfully refused to maintain operational control as required by law.

All three of Greene’s articles relate to Biden’s handling of the southern border.

In the first article, Greene alleges Biden has contributed to a spike in “illegal aliens and illegal narcotics, including deadly fentanyl, entering the United States” and that the Biden administration has “willfully violated” federal law “by releasing illegal aliens into the interior of the United States.”

The second article contains an allegation that Biden is endangering Americans by “allowing illegal aliens who had tested positive for COVID-19 to enter the country and infect American citizens.”

Finally, Greene alleges that Biden has “created a national security crisis and is endangering the lives of everyday Americans with his open border policies.”

There appears to be no real chance that Republicans will muster the votes to impeach Biden, or any of the other numerous people against whom Greene has filed articles of impeachment this week, among them Attorney General Merrick Garland, FBI director Christopher Wray, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandros Mayorkas, and U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., Matthew Graves.

Mayorkas has had articles filed against him multiple times already and has not yet faced an impeachment hearing or vote.

Republicans lack consensus on the impeachment topic, which has led Democrats to accuse Greene of showboating.

“Is there a bigger example of a shameless sideshow political stunt than a trolling impeachment attack by one of the most extreme MAGA members in Congress over ‘national security’ while she actively demands to defund the FBI and even said she ‘would’ve been armed’ and ‘‘would have won’ the January 6 insurrection if only she’d been in charge of it?” White House spokesperson Ian Sams said in a statement.

Sams added that President Biden was not moved by or concerned about the congresswoman’s actions.

“The President is focused on what’s important to the American people, like preventing House Republicans’ default that would crash the economy and protecting investments that are creating American manufacturing jobs, not silly political attacks,” Sams said.
