Mother and baby reunited in Turkey nearly two months after earthquake

A mother has been reunited with her baby in southern Turkey almost two months after a massive earthquake devestated the region.

The three-and-a-half-month old “miracle baby” was pulled out of the rubble more than five days after the quake, and miraculously with no health problems.

Tragically the baby’s father and two brothers died in the earthquake.

The baby was initially cared for in a local hospital, then was flown to the nation’s capital and placed in the authorities’ care. A DNA test confirmed the child’s mother, and the two were reunited 54 days after being separated.

Minister of Family and Social Services Derya Yanik was quoted as saying, “Reuniting a mother and her child is one of the most precious tasks in the world.”
