National child development network urges parents to start teaching woke ideology to their children, starting at 6-weeks

Portland-based KinderCare is calling on parents to instruct their children on “diversity, equity, and inclusion” (DEI) starting at six weeks of age, as initially reported by the Daily Caller.

The for-profit child care facility, with satellite locations across 39 U.S. states and Washington D.C., promotes “culturally responsive teaching” from the cradle to the classroom. A portion of their DEI web page reads: “Whether your child is six weeks old or in the sixth grade, they’re ready to learn how to practice empathy, compassion and understanding. And everything they do — from reading books and making art to even having lunch — can be experienced through an anti-bias lens.”

Parents are encouraged to read their young infants books that “show different cultures, identities, and characters,” and teach them to name “feelings in themselves and others.” According to the company, by bringing DEI instruction into the home, parents can “interrupt the development of bias” they inadvertently inflict on their impressionable youngsters. Those with preschool-aged children are instructed to actively “point out stereotypes and biases” while parents of school-aged children are encouraged to involve their kids in discussions about “fairness and justice.”

KinderCare also calls on parents to “introduce the idea of privilege” at home by encouraging children as young as six years old to “reflect on their own privilege and areas where they lack privilege.” Addressing “white families,” for whom they say “conversations about injustice and racism might be new,” they write “now more than ever, it’s clear that we all need to teach our kids about racism and even more importantly, how to be an anti-racist.”

Multiple DEI resources are listed on the page, including a “culturally-responsive teaching” video and tips on how to “celebrate pride as a family.” The site also includes a calendar listing days to observe Black History Month, Juneteenth, Indigenous Peoples Day, and Pride month, while omitting traditional American holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Independence Day, and Easter.

A blog post on the site, titled “Anti-Racist Kids: How We Teach Little Kids About Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion,” states that parents must “start early and with intention” instruction on racial equality and justice in order to prevent or mitigate damage caused to children when they “mimic attitudes about race that are held by the adults in their cultural group.”

Based on their stated objectives, it seems clear that KinderCare is banking on parents being on board with their child-care facilities pushing a leftist agenda on children. However, as has happened with other “woke” corporations, this business model also has the potential to back-fire.
