Week 9 of the 2021 NFL season began with a rematch of Super Bowl III, as the New York Jets traveled to Indiana to take on the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday Night Football.

The Colts rebounded on a short week from a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Titans last Sunday to pound the Jets 45-30. The score is deceptive for how one-sided the victory was for Indianapolis, who gave up two meaningless 4th quarter touchdowns when the game was well out of reach. Colts quarterback Carson Wentz, known throughout his career and this season in particular for his streaky play, hit a stride in the win, completing 22 of 30 passes for 272 yards and 3 touchdowns with no interceptions.

On the other side of the field, the Jets were coming off one of the franchise’s biggest wins in recent memory, as they shocked the powerful Cincinnati Bengals last week behind young quarterback Mike White. White could not repeat that same performance against the Colts, throwing no touchdowns and one interception before leaving the game due to injury.

The Colts improve to 4-5 on the year, staying in the hunt for the AFC playoffs as the season hits the midway mark. Meanwhile, New York drops to 2-6, likely on course to miss the postseason for the 11th year in a row.
