Regular use of ivermectin greatly reduced COVID-19 infections, hospitalizations, and deaths linked to the virus, according to a peer-reviewed study of more than 88,000 subjects in the city of Itajaí, Brazil.

The news may come as a shock to all those in the federal government and legacy media who ridiculed using the medication for COVID-19, labeling it a “horse dewormer” despite its decades-old approval for use in humans, and labeling its use as a COVID treatment “misinformation” and “dangerous.”

Flávio A. Cadegiani, MD, MSc, Ph.D., is a board-certified endocrinologist with a master’s degree and doctorate degree in clinical endocrinology. He led the study in Brazil, which was published by Cureus on Aug. 31.

The numbers speak for themselves.

When compared to those who took no ivermectin, regular users had a 49% lower rate of infection, a 100% reduction in hospitalizations, and a 92% lower mortality rate.

Researchers defined regular users as those who took 0.2mg/kg/day for two consecutive days, every 15 days, for 150 days for a total of at least 180 mg of ivermectin over the 5-month period. Irregular users were those who took no more than 60 mg total over the period of the study.

Irregular users saw 32% lower infection rates, 29% lower hospitalization rates, and 37% lower death rates from COVID when compared to non-users.

Cadegiani backed the legitimacy of his study on Twitter by pointing to the publishing standards of Cureus.

The study should help legitimize the use of ivermectin, which is traditionally used as an anti-parasite drug, to treat and prevent COVID-19 infection. Many prominent figures in the United States — including former President Donald Trump, Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo, comedian and podcast superstar Joe Rogan, and two-time reigning MVP of the National Football League Aaron Rodgers — have all touted the effectiveness of the drug for months, or more, while receiving condemnation and ridicule from legacy media and government bureaucrats like Dr. Anthony Fauci.

Now actual science is debunking the claims of those who claim to represent “science.”

Of the 283 regular users of ivermectin who contracted the virus, only two (0.7%) died of COVID-related causes during the study, compared to 79 deaths among non-users who tested positive (2.6%), and 29 deaths among irregular users who tested positive (1.9%). Both regular users who died were over the age of 50. One had a Type 2 diabetes diagnosis. The other was diagnosed with hypertension.

All subjects of the study were over the age of 18 and none had been diagnosed with COVID-19 prior to the study, which ran between July 7 and Dec. 2, 2020.
