Republicans are calling for an investigation into Pfizer after a Project Veritas expose showed a company executive claim that the company is using “directed evolution” to force COVID-19 mutations so the company can “preemptively develop new vaccines.”

The Project Veritas video released on Wednesday showed Jordan Trishton Walker, the Pfizer Director of Research and Development, talking in a restaurant setting. In a bombshell moment, Walker said that the company is exploring COVID mutations by putting the virus in monkeys to accelerate the transmission and mutation process of the virus in a research study similar to the controversial gain-of-function gene research.

While legacy media has largely ignored the concerning report, Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) have responded by launching investigations into the company’s research.

“Whether it’s gain of function research, or selected structure mutations through directed evolution, as Mr. Walker claimed would occur, any effort to make a virus more transmittable and deadlier is careless and dangerous,” Rubio stated yesterday in a letter directed to Albert Bourla, the president and CEO of Pfizer.

Rubio then requested Pfizer to be transparent by answering what company experiments involved mutating the virus and if any federal officials had oversight into the research.

On the same day, Johnson called on Congress to begin a formal investigation into the vaccine manufacturers and the vaccine approval process.

‘THERE’S A RISK’

“One of the things we’re exploring is like, why don’t we just mutate it [COVID] ourselves so we could create — preemptively develop new vaccines, right? So, we have to do that,” Walker said in the video.

He then acknowledged the inherent risk that was being taken by continuing, “If we’re gonna do that though, there’s a risk of like, as you could imagine — no one wants to be having a pharma company mutating f—ing viruses.”

According to the company’s research director, Pfizer’s directed research differs from gain-of-function research that specifically gives a new or enhanced ability to the virus. However, Pfizer’s “selected structure mutations” are also capable of increasing virus potency.

Walker again acknowledged the danger of this form of experimenting, saying, “You have to be very controlled to make sure that this virus that you mutate doesn’t create something that just goes everywhere.”

“Don’t tell anyone,” Walker said at another point in the conversation.

BIG PHARMA-TO-FDA CAROUSEL

In a more telling part of the conversation, Walker admits that COVID mutations helped prolong Pfizer’s “cash cow” by providing vaccines. Furthermore, because government officials at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are usually interested in one day working for Big Pharma companies, the companies themselves are often granted leniency by the reviewers.

Rubio found this admission particularly concerning and specifically mentioned the claims in his letter to the Pfizer CEO.

“As a company that claims to ‘innovate every day to make the world a healthier place,’ these claims from your leadership charged with research and development are alarming,” Rubio said.

In addition to Rubio and Johnson, Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Mary Miller (R-Ill.), and Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) have shared Project Veritas’s investigative footage.

Project Veritas released additional footage yesterday that shows the moment that Walker realized his words were recorded. In this footage, O’Keefe approaches the table to ask Walker additional questions about his claims.

The research director, clearly agitated, claimed that he was lying to “impress a date.” Moments later, he ripped an iPad from O’Keefe. Walker proceeded to destroy the iPad in an apparent attempt to eliminate the incriminating evidence.
