Coffee shops have fast become a favored gathering place among teens, a cozy spot to relax and chat with friends about music, movies, romances, and breakups.

Today, tweens and teens in Lubbock, Texas can help themselves to free abortion pills as they wait for the barista to whip up their lattes and macchiatos, courtesy of a clandestine campaign targeting minors at one of their favorite haunts.

Jane’s Due Process, whose mission is to help teens under the age of 18 obtain abortions without parental consent, is now partnering with a Lubbock coffeehouse to offer free Plan B emergency contraception pills to minors, along with the advice that they don’t tell their parents.

The shocking endeavor was revealed in a July tweet by Jane’s Due Process which read, “Psssst, #Lubbock teens … swing by Tumbleweed + Sage Coffeehouse to grab one of our repo kits! No questions asked.”

The tweet includes a TikTok video in which a woman cheerfully greets viewers with “Howdy, y’all” as she enters the cafe and proceeds to invite her teen viewers to “come with me to find a free Plan B kit thanks to Jane’s Due Process.” She goes on to explain that abortion pills are available for pickup in the cafe’s restrooms.

“All you have to do is come during our business hours — don’t even worry about stopping at the register or telling anyone what you’re doing,” she continues, twice assuring viewers that “We’re here for you.”

The video next takes viewers into a restroom, where it reveals storage bins filled with Plan B kits stored beneath small tables.

At the beginning of the clip, the camera slowly pans around the parking lot, clearly showing a nearby street and surrounding buildings, presumably as a means of helping teens find the coffee shop.

“UNDER 18 AND NEED AN ABORTION?” Jane’s Due Process asks on its website, which features a non-binary couple holding hands.

“We know getting your parents’ permission isn’t always an option. Call or text us at 866-999-5263.”

The non-profit organization says its mission is to “help young people in Texas navigate parental consent laws and confidentially access abortion and birth control.”

Among its offerings is a “text line for young people needing information on birth control and family planning services without parental involvement” as well as “legal support” for minors seeking to bypass parental consent laws in order to obtain abortions.

The group states that it is “working towards a future where young people in Texas have full reproductive freedom and autonomy over their healthcare decisions.”
