Four members of the Proud Boys were convicted of seditious conspiracy for their role in the events of Jan. 6.

The verdicts were announced yesterday after seven days of jury deliberations. Notably, the alt-right group’s former leader Enrique Tarrio was also convicted. Attorney General Merrick Garland celebrated the convictions.

The members were also convicted of violent felonies and conspiracy charges, like interfering with the duties of Congress. They may face up to fifty years in prison.

This was the third and final of the rare sedition cases that stem from the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol Building following the 2020 election. Several of the Oath Keepers including their founder were also found guilty of this charge back in November.

But the trial itself proved controversial. The judge allowed evidence concerning Proud Boy members not on trial. He also permitted jurors to make the conspiracy conviction if they found only an unspoken agreement to disrupt the election certification.
