Fighting in Sudan continues apace even as The United States and African nations are racing to reach a ceasefire.
Over 500 people have been killed and close to 4,200 wounded by the fighting between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April 15. Today the RSF released a statement accusing the army of attacking its forces and spreading “false rumors.”
An existing three-day ceasefire is due to expire at midnight, prompting some nations to take swift action in extending it.
The presidents of South Sudan, Kenya and Djibouti are working on a proposal that includes extending the truce. It also includes talks between the two factions. The army has given initial approval to the plan.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is also working with the African Union Commission to end the conflict.
