As the CDC and Biden administration reup the push for masking, even in the vaccinated population, a new survey suggests the Americans are less likely to go along with it than in previous months.

A new survey from ROKK Solutions shows that in July 40% of those polled said they would wear a mask “when in the presence of others.” The number of Americans willing to wear masks is steadily trending downward. Back in May 59% of Americans said they’d wear a mask, in the following month of June that percentage then dropped over ten points to 48%.

Unsurprisingly, a person’s politics play a significant role in their willingness to mask up with Democrats being more likely than the average number of Americans to wear a mask. According to the survey, only 27% of Republicans said they’d wear a mask as opposed to 51% of Democrats.

Likewise, geographical locations affect masking with those in the Western and North Eastern United States being far more likely to wear a mask than Americans living in the Midwestern and Southern parts of the country.

The West is the most likely to wear masks at 46%, followed closely by the Northeast at 44%. The South shows only 38% of respondents masking and those in the Midwest are the least likely to put on a face covering at 30%.
