Tennessee’s first safe haven box successfully used

by ian

Tennessee just made history after its very first Safe Haven Baby Box blessing.

The box provides a way for a parent-in-crisis to anonymously surrender a baby without face-to-face interactions.
Tennessee’s first box was installed three months ago at a Knoxville fire station. On May 27, the silent alarm triggered, allowing the crew to retrieve a healthy baby boy.

Every state has a legal process to surrender an infant. But the laws, tragically, aren’t enough to prevent unsafe abandonment and deaths.

These boxes are a crucial tool in the fight for life since they let moms get help for their baby without fear of shame or prosecution.

Safe Haven says raising awareness is important and that even simply sharing a box location on social media can save lives.
