In the pantheon of corporations, no one would claim that Buffer Insurance compares to the likes of Apple, Disney, or Amazon. However, in the eyes of pro-life Americans, the Southlake, Texas, company likely stands tall following its decision to offer its employees extensive maternity benefits.
While by no means the only pro-life company in America, to date Buffer Insurance stands as the only company that incentivizes childbirth in such a manner.
Last week, Buffer announced on Facebook and Instagram that, in answer to the growing list of Fortune 500 companies that have pledged to fund abortion travel for their employees, it would begin funding the costs associated with carrying a pregnancy to term.
“Secular companies are paying for the travel costs for employees to abort babies out-of-state,” the company wrote Monday. “Today we are announcing that Buffer will pay for costs for our employees who birth babies.”
Likely in preparation for the common criticism that pro-life supporters do not care about children post-birth, Buffer also pledged to give employees paid maternity and paternity leave and pay the medical costs associated with adopting a baby.
Moreover, the company also announced it would assist its business clients in creating similar policies, assuming said clients have such a desire.
“If you would like to learn how you can provide these benefits to your employees, let us know,” a Buffer post reads. “We have ready-to-use policies you can add to your employee handbooks.”
The company website states that Buffer insurance is veteran-owned and offers medical, dental, vision, and life insurance as well as other services meant to educate “business owners and human resource professionals on ways to protect their vision” and assist “seniors transitioning to Medicare by finding coverages that will protect their future.”
According to a list compiled by CBS News, at least 38 major U.S. companies have vowed to support their employees who wish to have an abortion.
Among the companies making such offers are Meta, parent company of the social media sites on which Buffer announced its new policy, as well as medical insurance provider Cigna. Noted progressive outfits like Dick’s Sporting Goods, Netflix, and Vox Media are also included.
