Texas set to ban child gender modification services

Texas is on the verge of becoming the next state to ban child gender modification procedures.

The Texas House passed Senate Bill 14 last week after a week full of disruptions and stalls. Trans activists interrupted proceedings on Tuesday. Their rowdy behavior forced authorities to clear the rotunda of all visitors, including hundreds who showed up in support of the bill.

Democrats also attempted to kill the bill multiple times by claiming to find errors. This forced it back through a committee. But the bill passed on Friday with some Democratic support, even.

The Senate must now approve one amendment before it advances to the governor’s desk.

S.B. 14 will ban puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and sex change surgeries for those under 18. Insurance plans including Medicaid are prohibited from covering these services for minors.

The only exception is when a child is experiencing early puberty and needs medical intervention for healthy development.
