A Houston area teacher is facing time behind bars after it was discovered that she put her son in the truck of her car in an effort to avoid catching COVID-19 from the 13-year-old after he tested positive, according to Click2Houston.

Teacher Sarah Beam was arrested on Jan. 3 and posted a bond to be released that same day after her son was found in the truck of her vehicle at a COVID testing facility.

The 41-year-old mother who works for the Cypress Falls High School in northwest Texas was charged with endangering a minor after it was discovered at the testing site that the teacher had forced her son to ride inside the trunk.  Cypress Fairbanks school district officials said in a statement that the child was not harmed.

This story was initially reported by KHOU who stated in their report that the woman was on her way to get tested for the virus when she was found out:

A mother is charged with endangering her 13 YO son by driving with him in her trunk as she was going to get a COVID test. According to court docs she said he had tested positive for COVID and she wanted to prevent herself from being exposed,” KHOU’s Zach Tawatari said in his tweet about the issue.

The mother, who reportedly had a warrant issued for her arrest, is out on bond.

This story of the aggressive measures taken to separate from the 13-year-old received so much attention that the India Times reported on the alleged negligent mother.

The school district’s director of health services, Bevin Gordon the one to recognize that there was a problem while was gathering information from vehicles that were in line for COVID-19 testing at a district stadium on Monday. She discovered that the child was in the trunk of a car, according to a court document, cited by Click2Houston:

CFPD was alerted that a child was in the trunk of a car at a drive-thru COVID-19 testing site earlier this week. Law enforcement conducted a full investigation, resulting in a warrant for arrest. Thankfully, the child was not harmed.”

Beam, who worked as a teacher at Cypress Falls High School most recently has been employed by the district since 2011 and is now on administrative leave.
