One of the most impactful pieces of modern media about the life and ministry of Jesus Christ is breaking records, according to reports that came out over the weekend.

Created by Dallas Jenkins, “The Chosen” is a groundbreaking TV series about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ based on the gospel accounts in the New Testament. The series has captivated believing and non-believing audiences alike for both its faithfulness to the testimony of scripture and its high-quality production level, a dual feat that is difficult to accomplish in Christian media.

Over the weekend, sources reported that the upcoming Christmas special for series, titled “Christmas with The Chosen: The Messengers,” has set a new record with over $8 million in ticket sales, the largest in the history of movies coordinated by Fathom Events. The Christmas special will show commentary from various actors in the series, as well as Christmas worship concerts from top Christian recording artists like Phil Wickham and For King and Country. It will also depict the birth of Jesus Christ, adding the Incarnation to the gospel account that the series has not thus far portrayed.

Fathom Events CEO Ray Nut stated in an interview,

We knew we had something special with this title. We are grateful for the passionate fans of The Chosen and our exhibitor partners who accommodated demand by adding showtimes and locations. We are all partners on this journey to claim the (No. 1) spot as Fathom’s bestselling event, ever!

This is an impressive accomplishment for a series that already impacted so many viewers. Hopefully, this Christmas event will encourage believers in their faith and will draw unbelievers to see and savor the Baby in the manger, born to die and rise again to take away the sin of the world.
