Freedom of speech has won the Twitter battle with Elon Musk’s purchase of the company, but TikTok has furthered censorship by banning a pro-life advocacy group.
According to a post by Students for Life of America (SFLA), the group was banned from the social media platform on April 25 for “multiple Community Guideline violations” without the ability to appeal the decision and to get clarity on their account’s removal.
While the Christian Post has reached out to TikTok, the company has not responded with a specific explanation of which of the guidelines the group is accused of violating.
By deduction, SFLA is assuming that the platform removed them for the latest video posted which went viral with 2.2 million views and showed SFLA President Kristen Hawkins debating a student at University of Texas San Antonio on the value of a baby whether it be in the womb or out.
In the video, Hawkins challenges the young woman on her perspective that life does not begin at conception but rather “life begins when you understand living women matter more than potential babies.” The conversation continues with Hawkins challenging the girl to identify the moment life begins and defining viability. The misguided young woman clarifies that when something can sustain life on its own, then it is considered living, to which Hawkins points out the absurdity of that idea. She reveals the false understanding that a baby in the womb is any different from one who has been born but similarly cannot take care of itself leaving the girl to redirect the discussion.
The student asked why we continue to have this conversation when her mother, who attended college 30 years prior, was also fighting for the right to abortion. Hawkins lays it all out there, saying the “reason we’re still having this discussion is because some people don’t want to accept the natural consequences of heterosexual sex being inconvenienced by another human life or want to selfishly choose to end human life in order to have their whims met.”
The group shared in a press release, “If you’re pro-life on Tik Tok’s social media platform, you have a target on your back. There is no other explanation for why SFLA’s account was recently banned after posting life-affirming content while abortion supporters continue to run rampant on the app. Tik Tok seems to be practicing corporate viewpoint discrimination.”
TikTok was the only social media platform the video was shared on which felt that it violated any community regulations and needed to be removed.
