Top-ranked pediatric hospital caught lying about offering trans surgery to minors

A major children’s hospital is under fire for offering transgender surgeries to minors – and then changing the policy after they were caught.

Twitter account Libs of TikTok revealed that Boston Children’s Hospital advertised gender reassignment surgeries to minors of at least 17 years old, despite claims that it only offered “gender-affirming” operations for adults 18 and older.

As of Sunday, the hospital touted “gender-affirming hysterectomies,” specifying that patients “must be between 17 and 35 years of age at the time of surgery.” After Libs of TikTok posted screenshots of the policy on Twitter, however, the hospital revised the language by replacing the reference to 17-year-olds to read, in bold letters, “We only perform gender-affirming hysterectomies on patients who are 18 or older.”

Libs of TikTok also posted a video produced by the hospital asserting that children can perceive that they are transgender “from the minute they were born, practically.”

Dr. Jeremi Carswell, the director of the Gender Multispeciality Service at the Boston Children’s Hospital, claims in the video that childhood behaviors like refusing a haircut, wearing a sibling’s clothing, or “playing with the opposite gender toys” are indicators that a child is transgender and, therefore, a suitable candidate for transgender medical interventions, many of which are permanent.

Breitbart News recently outed Carswell as a paid consultant for Endo Pharmaceuticals, a company that manufactures the controversial drug Supprelein LA used as a puberty blocker for children considered to be transgender. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently cautioned that using the drug has been shown to cause brain swelling and vision loss in some cases.

The news outlet also reported that Dr. Stephen Rosenthal, cofounder and medical director of the University of California San Francisco Benioff Children’s Hospital’s Child and Adolescent Gender Center, has received tens of thousands of dollars from Endo Pharmaceuticals and other manufacturers of puberty blockers between 2015 and 2021. The report revealed that Rosenthal reportedly received nearly $40,000 from pharmaceutical companies between 2015 and 2021.

The report states: “Of that sum, $16,765 came from Endo Pharmaceuticals and AbbVie; payments were linked directly to their products Supprelin LA and Lupron, which are both used off-label as puberty blockers for children who are attempting to change their sex. Public records reveal that Rosenthal has accepted consulting fees from both AbbVie and Endo Pharmaceuticals.

Rosenthal also served as the president of the Pediatric Endocrine Society, which received more than $125,000 from AbbVie between 2017 and 2021, according to the article.

Doctors are far more likely to prescribe a specific drug when they have received monetary compensation, including “payments for delivering promotional talks,” from the manufacturer, according to a 2019 ProPublica report.

The Breitbart report points out that Boston Children’s Hospital is one of several pediatric hospitals in the country that have financially benefited by promoting gender dysphoria among adolescents. Numerous hospitals that offer “sex change operations and other medical interventions to gender dysphoric minors” have, for example, sponsored pride parades in their local communities.

According to its website, “Boston Children’s Hospital is dedicated to improving and advancing the health and well-being of children around the world through its life-changing work in clinical care, biomedical research, medical education, and community engagement. This hospital is affiliated with Harvard University and was the first pediatric hospital to create a separate clinic dedicated to providing “gender-affirming care.”

The hospital’s tagline boasts “Pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in children’s health.”
