Trump docs case sees possible interference, potential dismissal

Earlier this week, allegations surfaced of misconduct by special counsel prosecutors in the classified documents case against former President Donald Trump.

A lawyer representing Trump’s former valet has alleged that he was threatened by federal prosecutors in an earlier conversation.

Stanley Woodward is a D.C. area lawyer who is representing Walt Nauta, a personal aide to the former president and co-defendant in the classified documents case. In paperwork filed earlier this week, Woodward accused special counsel prosecutor Jay Bratt of misconduct.

Woodward alleges that in a private conversation, Bratt told him he was surprised Woodward was a “Trump guy”. In addition, Bratt suggested that flipping his client against Trump may be more favorable for his pending application to be a superior court judge.

If true, the misconduct could be enough to have the cases against both Nauta and Trump dismissed. Depending on the severity of what was said, Bratt himself could be charged with a crime.

When asked by reporters, a Justice Department spokesman declined to comment on the allegations.
