Trump targeted in another grand jury investigation

Former President Donald Trump’s troubles continue as he is now the target of a grand jury investigation into the Jan. 6 riot.

Although headlines broke Tuesday, the former president confirmed he was made aware of the development on Sunday night. He wrote on Truth Social Tuesday that Special Counsel Jack Smith gave him four days to report to the Grand Jury.

Trump said it was effectively the “third Indictment and Arrest of Joe Biden’s NUMBER ONE POLITICAL OPPONENT, who is largely dominating him in the race for Presidency.” He called it a “complete and total political weaponization of law enforcement.”

Back in December, the Select Committee recommended that Trump be charged with as many as four crimes. These were inciting an insurrection, obstructing an official proceeding, conspiracy to defraud, and conspiracy to make a false statement.

But it’s unknown what charges Trump will face, or if he will even be charged.

This follows a Monday announcement that the Georgia Supreme Court is allowing an Atlanta-area district attorney to investigate the former president for 2020 election interference. This means Trump is potentially facing a fourth indictment in Fulton County.

More recently, Trump’s bid to start a new civil trial against author E. Jean Carroll for defamation was denied Wednesday.
