Donald Trump’s social media platform TRUTH Social is now available for download on the Apple App store, as the 45th President looks to challenge mainstream platforms like Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook.  Truth Social quickly became the App Store’s top free app on Monday, while also being the top trending title in the “Social Networking” category.

“Truth Social is America’s ‘Big Tent’ social media platform that encourages an open, free, and honest global conversation without discriminating against political ideology,” the site’s landing page reads.

The Community Guidelines state the site’s objective is “to provide a social platform in the spirit of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.”

According to the site’s guidelines, administrators will not “marshal” user’s feed, but will instead provide users with the “tools” to “mute or block other users, or to mute or block all comments containing terms of your choice.”

We do not marshal your feed; we do not pretend to be qualified to do so. Our team believes only you are qualified to monitor your feed, therefore we offer you the tools you need to do it on your own. TRUTH Social provides a variety of features and functions — including the ability to mute or block other users, or to mute or block all comments containing terms of your choice — and we encourage you to use these tools whenever you wish to control your content.

However, the platform does encourage users to report illegal activity such as “content posted by or on behalf of terrorist organizations, intellectual property theft, [and] child sexual abuse material,” as well as to report spam or fake accounts.

The app was automatically downloaded to devices that pre-ordered the app, but due to the high volume of registration many have been added to a waitlist after signing up.

Last week Trump teased the app’s release, with Donald Trump Jr. sharing a message written by the former President on Twitter.  “Get ready! Your favorite president will see you soon,” Trump wrote in the message.

The company that created the platform, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), had previously announced a public release in the first quarter of 2022 Truth Social has already been available for users invited to join the site during its testing phase. Prominent users include Sean Hannity, Dan Bongino, and Charlie Kirk.

Fox Business reports that TMGT is using Rumble’s cloud servers for its infrastructure needs, rather than relying on mainstream servers such as Amazon Web Services. Amazon kicked Parler, a similar platform to TRUTH Social, from its servers in January 2021.

An Android version of the app is currently in development, although the date of its release is unknown. A grayed-out Google Play button reads “coming soon” on the landing page.
