In an update to the case of controversial Christian reality TV star Joshua Duggar, his legal team is reportedly asking for either a retrial or a reversal of the judge’s guilty verdict.

To recap – Duggar was arrested in spring of 2021 for possession of over 200 images of child pornography on his laptop. After several delays, he stood on trial in November and December and was found guilty on all counts of possession and acquisition of the explicit content.

During the trial, Duggar’s lawyers are argued that the images were planted on his computer by another person, likely someone bent on smearing his reputation. Last week, they expounded on that argument, claiming the prosecutors provided insufficient proof that Duggar “knew that the visual depictions were of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct.” Because of this, they argued, Duggar should be allowed another chance at acquittal.

Duggar has not yet been sentenced, but it is likely he will serve at least several years in prison and be forced to pay thousands of dollars in fines. He could face up 20 years and over $200,000 in fines.

At this point, it is unknown when his sentencing will take place or if the presiding judge will heed the Duggar legal team’s request.
