Another high-profile athlete is under suspicion for abuse charges.  On Friday, veteran Starlin Castro of the Washington Nationals was suspended without pay for allegations of domestic abuse, child abuse, and sexual assault.  The team is backing the MLB’s decision, saying in a statement,

We take all allegations of abuse and harassment very seriously. We fully support the commissioner’s decision.

Castro is in his 12th major league season, and the team will not keep him even if he is found innocent.  The punishment also requires that Castro forfeit the postseason, even if he ends up on a team that advances.  This is not the first time that Castro has dealt with allegations of abuse.  The 31-year-old infielder played under suspicions of sexual assault early in his career, but was never convicted.

Castro joins several other athletes investigated for abuse, including Houston Texans’ quarterback Deshaun Watson and fellow Major League Baseball player Trevor Bauer, pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Both of these players were also accused of sexual assault.
