The White House is hopeful a deal will be reached soon to free at least some of the more than 200 hostages held captive by Hamas. President Joe Biden expressed his optimism to a reporter yesterday.

Pentagon Spokesman John Kirby reiterated Biden’s comments, saying he believes a deal is closer than ever before.

Reports suggest Hamas will free 50 prisoners in exchange for Palestinian prisoners during a four-day ceasefire. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel is making progress in negotiations but gave few details.

A senior Hamas official also said it’s close to reaching a deal.
