Wrongfully convicted man freed after 34 years, says Christian faith prevents ‘hate’

A man wrongfully imprisoned for more than three decades is citing his faith in Christ as his reason for letting go and moving on.

Sidney Holmes of Florida was convicted in April 1989 of driving two unidentified robbers.

Holmes, who claimed he was innocent, petitioned the State Attorney’s Conviction Review Unit in November 2020 to look at his case.

The unit corroborated Holmes’ claim of factual innocence, and he was released after serving 34 years in prison.

Now that he’s out, Holmes plans to spend more time with his family and open a food truck business.

He gave an inspiring message when asked about his future, saying: “With the Christian faith I have, I can’t have hate. Just have to keep moving.”
