A new report from the United Nations revealed this week that over a million school-aged girls in Afghanistan have been denied some form of education since 2021.

According to the report, released on Thursday, over 1.4 million girls have been denied access to secondary education since the Taliban took over the country nearly three years ago.

The United Nations cultural agency UNESCO authored the report, which read in part, “In just three years, the de facto authorities have almost wiped out two decades of steady progress for education in Afghanistan, and the future of an entire generation is now in jeopardy.”

The report also blamed Taliban authorities for depriving boys of education by banning female teachers from teaching male students.
