Saturday is International Holocaust Remembrance Day and a new report shows there are about 245,000 Jewish Holocaust survivors still alive.
It’s been nearly 80 years since the horrific events, in which nearly 6 million Jews lost their lives in the state-sponsored genocide. Most of the survivors were only children when Hitler first rose to power in Germany.
Their median age is now 86 according to the Claims Conference demographics report. The survivors are also spread throughout 90 countries, with nearly half in Israel. Another 16 percent live in the US and over 14,000 still live in Germany.
The report comes at a time when antisemitism is rising after the October 7th attack on Israel, with a record number of bomb threats against synagogues and Jewish schools since then.
