In the New Testament historical account of the Christmas narrative, there is one chief character: our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, the baby in the manger. However, there is a secondary character who, after the Lord, would be most recognized in connection to the Christmas story. For 2,000 years, many in Christendom have venerated this woman as the “Queen of Heaven” and even as the second half of the Redemption alongside Jesus Christ. But the historical account tells a far different story of a young, humble Jewish girl who was handpicked by God to be the mother of the Savior of the Universe: Mary of Nazareth, the mother of Jesus Christ.
