Let’s explore one of the most important church councils in the history of Christianity. In 325 AD, the Christian Church had just emerged out of the shadow of the pagan Roman Empire. At the same time, the Church was under attack spiritually, as numerous heresies began appearing that threatened the truth claims of Christianity. Many heresies were centered on the deity and humanity of Jesus Christ, and the nature of the Holy Spirit. The Church was in desperate need of a re-establishment of sound theology, and in the providence of God, this came in the Council of Nicaea in 325.
