A Moment in History: The Steve Bartman Incident

On October 14, 2003 – 95 years to the day after their last World Series win – the Chicago Cubs held a 3-2 series lead in the NLCS against the underdog Florida Marlins. Practically tasting their first World Series win since 1945, the Cubs looked like they would clinch the long-sought victory with a 3-0 lead in the top of the 8th inning. But, when Marlins infielder Luis Castillo hit what looked like an easy out, a Cubs fan named Steve Bartman accidentally prevented the Cubs outfield from securing the ball.
