Center Square reports that more than 12 million illegal immigrants have crossed the US border since 2021.

This includes more than 241,000 apprehensions of migrants in May alone. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data, more than 2.2 million people crossed the border nationwide this year.

In May, over 1.35 million illegal immigrants were single adults. Based on current predictions, the total number of apprehensions might surpass last year’s record 3.2 million. From 2021 to 2024, the total number of arrests was over 10 million.

Center Square attributes these high numbers to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ lenient policy that allows migrants to enter through pathways that were prohibited before.
