Ariz. House erupts in chaos over Civil War-era abortion ban

Chaos erupted in the Arizona House yesterday after Republicans blocked efforts to remove a Civil War-era abortion ban recently greenlit by the state supreme court.

As reported by Arizona Central, issues began when swing district Republican Matt Gress tried to initiate a repeal vote only to be cut short by a motion to recess by a fellow Republican. Democrats then erupted in shouts, while accusing Gress of being insincere in light of his previous pro-life efforts

Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs has called on the legislature to overturn the near-total abortion ban as soon as possible. However, Republicans hold a small majority in both chambers and are likely to block any efforts to repeal the law before it takes effect on April 24.
