Articles of impeachment against Mayorkas approved

The full House chamber will soon vote on the impeachment articles against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas as early as today. A Republican-led House Committee voted 8-4 yesterday that the historic border crisis warranted a historic impeachment move.

Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) presided over the procedural vote. The articles, brought forward by Rep. Mark Green (R-Tenn.), accuse Mayorkas of lying to Congress and violating immigration laws.

If the vote passes, Mayorkas would be the first Cabinet official impeached in nearly 150 years. The secretary called the accusations “baseless” and said that he is prepared to defend himself.
