Following an inspiring win for the Atlanta Braves in game six of the 2021 World Series, one Atlanta standout made it a point in his post-game interview to give glory to God.

In the euphoria of the Braves’ first world championship celebration since 1995, shortstop Dansby Swanson was interviewed on the field in Houston by Fox Sports baseball analyst Tom Verducci. Swanson, born and raised in the Atlanta region, hit a home run in game 6 and made the final out, fielding a clean ground ball and throwing a strike to first baseman Freddie Freeman to win the title. He is a professing Christian, and he made sure to give praise to God in the interview:

The Good Lord has blessed me so much…I wouldn’t be here without Him…the peace that He gives me is remarkable. In moments like this, you can never go wrong trusting in that. I’m just so thankful to be here.

In an interview the day before Game 6, Swanson highlighted the joy of playing for his home town team and the peace of resting in God’s plan. He was not drafted by Atlanta but arrived there through a trade while he was still in the minor leagues. Swanson said,

I’m just so thankful to be here. I really can’t say it enough. Getting traded over here, at the time, I didn’t understand it. But God’s always got a plan, and if I’ve learned one thing is having faith in that plan will never fail you, and it’s one of the best things that’s ever happened to me.
