Benny Gantz resigns from Israeli war cabinet

War cabinet member Benny Gantz announced his resignation yesterday after months of threats. He accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of “putting his own political survival” first instead of the country’s security needs.

But Gantz, Netanyahu’s primary political rival, added that he believes both the prime minister and Yoav Gallant will do the right thing, meaning they will concede and help establish a two-state solution.

Laura Blumenfeld from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies said that Gantz’s move will shift things toward hardliners on the right, weakening the Israeli-US trust.
