On Tuesday, President Joe Biden notified Congress that he had approved a new $1 billion weapons package for Israel.
Biden’s announcement comes less than a week after he halted a shipment of precision bombs to Israel over its operations in Rafah, a move that drew backlash from Democrats and Republicans alike.
And while this latest package still won’t include those bombs, it does include tank ammunition and mortar rounds, along with tactical vehicles. White House Spokesman John Kirby said last week that President Biden remains committed to ensuring Israel has the means to defend itself against Hamas.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said he supports the new weapon package.
