Biden administration pushing for background check expansion

The Biden administration has announced its plan to expand background check requirements for gun purchases.

The new rule would require all gun sellers to obtain federal licensing and run expanded criminal and mental health checks on customers, regardless of where and how they sell firearms. The DOJ says the new rule will “keep guns out of the hands of violent criminals.”

Conservative critics disagree with the move.

According to the Associated Press, around 20,000 dealers operate without registration currently. Some Second Amendment advocates argue extensive gun control may be the problem.

Republican senators John Cornyn (Texas) and Thom Tillis (N.C) said they would introduce a resolution of disapproval to overturn the new rule.
