Biden campaign makes risky move in joining TikTok

In an effort to reach younger voters, President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign launched an official TikTok account on Sunday with a Super Bowl-themed video.

Axios reports that team Biden has been weighing the pros and cons of joining the app since November due to potential data security concerns.

But they decided to go for it with a lighthearted video titled, “lol hey guys.” As of this reporting, the video has already garnered over 5.2 million views, and the account boasts over 67,000 followers.

Biden campaign advisers told Axios yesterday, “In a media ecosystem that is more fragmented and personalized than ever, it’s even more important to get our message across every channel and every platform possible.”

But the move raised some eyebrows since TikTok has been under the federal microscope for alleged ties with China. During a hearing with social media companies last month, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) targeted TikTok’s CEO with questions regarding its business dealings in China.
